Our Story

From a Family Farm in Bendigo to the World

Every livestock farmer knows that the success of an operation depends on efficient feed management and healthy, productive animals. For decades, conventional feeders have been a source of frustration, with grain wasted, stock overfed, and farmers spending countless hours refilling troughs. Advantage Feeders was created to change all that. What began as a single innovative idea on a family farm in Bendigo, Victoria has grown into a globally trusted solution, helping farmers across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, and beyond.

In 2006, Gerard Roney, then a young man working on his family farm, recognised a simple but costly problem. Traditional livestock feeders were inefficient, allowing stock to gorge themselves and requiring constant refilling. Feed wastage was high, nutritional goals for livestock were inconsistent, and farmers had to dedicate excessive time to feeding management. Determined to find a better way, Gerard set out to design a feeder that could consistently deliver the right amount of feed. His vision was clear: to improve livestock nutrition, reduce feed waste, save time and money, and provide a solution farmers could trust.

Precision Ration Control
the 3-Way Restriction System

Through hands-on trial and careful observation, Gerard developed the revolutionary 3-Way Restriction System. Unlike standard feeders, which rely on livestock eventually getting tired of licking, this system controls the height, depth, and width of the feed access area, effectively limiting how much feed an animal can consume at one time.

The system works with the natural biology of livestock, using saliva production as a control mechanism. With this innovation, each lick delivers only a few grains or pellets, and after a few minutes, the animal naturally cannot access any more feed. Livestock visit the feeder multiple times throughout the day, creating a pattern of small, consistent supplementation that supports rumen efficiency, enhances pasture conversion, and improves overall production outcomes while significantly reducing feed wastage.

From those first prototypes developed on a family farm, Advantage Feeders quickly gained attention from farmers across Australia. The benefits were clear: reduced feed waste, lower labour requirements, and improved livestock performance. Over time, the company expanded internationally, establishing distributors and agents in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, and Canada, bringing reliable, precision-feeding technology to farms across the globe.
